Parents' Evening
We'd like to apologise to parents and carers of pupils in years 9 and 11, for having to cut short parents' evening yesterday. This was due to the amber snow warning, which came into force at 3.00pm, just as parents' evening started. Although the weather in the immediate vicinity of school wasn't too bad in the end, a number of our staff live further afield and we had to ensure that they were able to get home safely.
If, because of this, you were unable to attend the shortened event, or didn't meet with a teacher you wanted to speak with, please get in touch. The easiest way would be to email the teacher directly to arrange an appointment (this could be in person or by phone). Staff email addresses can be found here:
Strike Days
There are two NEU strike days next week; Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th March. As it appears that the government are no nearer resolving this dispute, we plan to operate in the same way as on the two previous strike days. This means that, on those days, school will be closed to all pupils, except:
- The same small group of pupils who were offered a place last time. We will be in contact with those parents/carers on Monday to confirm this offer.
- Year 13 students should attend on Wednesday 15th only.
- Year 12 students should attend on Thursday 16th only.
The voucher system for those pupils who receive free school meals will operate as before.
Student success story
We were visited by Mo, one of our past students, last week. He left our 6th Form in 2017 to study motor mechanics at Stockport College. After passing that course, he decided he wanted to travel and spend time with some of his family in Iraq. Mo stayed for three years and worked as an interpreter in the public relations department of the parliament in Baghdad. He travelled to Morocco and Jordan as part of his job. Mo has now returned to the UK and is a manager for Future Directions, a company that supports vulnerable adults to live independently.
I think that counts as a Castle Hill success story.... well done Mo!
World Book Day
Classes celebrated World Book Day by decorating their classroom doors with a book-related design. Mrs Hudson will announce the winning door next week, but here are a few favourites...
