Castle Hill High School offers a broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum. The school’s Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Policy underpins practice and is reviewed annually. Central to all we do are positive partnerships with all stakeholders but particularly between students, staff and parents.
All students who attend Castle Hill have either a Statement of Special Educational Needs, drafted under Statutory Procedures, or an Education Health & Care Plan. Applications to the school are made through the Local Authority Statutory Assessment Team. All advice-givers will have supported such a request. The final decision is made after consultations between the parents, child, school and Local Authority. If all agree then a place is offered.

Transition arrangements (Year 6 to Year 7)
The transition from primary to secondary school can be worrying for any child (and parent!). At Castle Hill we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible. Here's what to expect:
Year 5 or Year 6 All students and parents/carers will be expected to visit school for a look around at least once during Year 5 or Year 6.
November of Year 6: Parents are invited to our annual Open Morning, this is a great opportunity to see the school in action.
March: Parents will be sent a welcome letter detailing key dates in the transition process and an invite to our Information Evening.
Early May: Parents will be sent a copy of our Induction Brochure.
Late May: An Information Evening is held in school. This is an opportunity to meet key school staff along with representatives from a number of other agencies including the speech and language team, the occupational therapist, the school nurse and SEN transport. We'll also ask parents to complete a few forms to give us more information about their child.
June: One of our Year 7 form teachers will visit each student in their primary school to gain additional insight into their individual needs.
Early July: Students attend a transition morning in school during which they will meet their new form teacher and their new classmates.
Late July: Students will receive a letter from their child's form teacher with a copy of their timetable for September.
September: Students will be greeted on their first day by their form teacher. Form teachers will contact parents during the first week to discuss how their child is settling in and explain ways in which they will keep in contact throughout the year.
