Castle Hill High School is a day special school for students aged 11 – 18 with significant and complex needs. Our most recent Ofsted inspection in May 2017 judged the school to be OUTSTANDING in all areas.
The school moved to its new site at The Fairway, Offerton in September 2014. The accommodation and learning resources here are excellent and maintained to a very high standard. It has purpose-built science, food technology, design technology, vocational, computing and art areas plus a sixth form facility for 24 students. The sports facilities include a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), gym and extensive playing fields. The school also has links with the Stockport Music Service and access to some of their excellent facilities. Students have their own indoor and outdoor recreational areas including common rooms, café and outdoor play/relaxation areas.
Students' special needs are supported by the regular involvement of the Education Psychology Service, Services for the Sensory Impaired and the Local Heath Trust (speech and language therapy, school nurse and both occupational therapy and physiotherapy) and Services for Young People.
Students on the autistic spectrum are supported by our Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC) Hub team. We also have an Inclusion/Behaviour Team who support students throughout the school in terms of access to the curriculum and behaviour management.
Students are offered a broad balanced education covering all aspects of the National Curriculum enhanced and supplemented by alternative curriculum experiences, lunchtime and after school clubs as well as other extra-curricular activities such as residential experiences. The latter feature highly with the school visiting Lakeside Activity Centre in Cumbria, the Peak District and Kingswood Outdoor Centre in Yorkshire as well as trips to London and summer holiday club excursions.
Our Year 7 students come from a wide range of primary schools across Stockport and beyond and this can make the transition to secondary school especially daunting. We therefore have a comprehensive transition programme which includes at least one visit to Castle Hill for parents and students before admission. Our Year 7 form teachers also visit the students in their primary schools. To facilitate a smooth transition we follow a primary model in Year 7 with form teachers taking the majority of lessons.
From Year 8 onwards students follow a mainstream secondary model with lessons being taught by a range of subject specialists.
We have fantastic staff who are committed to improving the life chances for all our students.
We have high expectations of our students, striving to engage them in the challenge of learning and helping them to become evaluators of their own learning.
Our fundamental focus is to support and raise attainment and achievement (educationally, emotionally and socially) for all our students.
All students enjoy equality of opportunity, regardless of sex, race or ability. Our aim is to provide an education which is relevant and worthwhile, preparing our students for the world of work and ensuring that they leave us as caring young adults who have developed positive attitudes and values and are respectful of others.
The school building is wheelchair accessible and has a lift for disabled access to the upper floors. It also has comprehensive toileting and showering facilities for disabled people.
If you would like more information or would like to visit the school to see us at work, please do not hesitate to contact the school office on 0161 285 3925 or email: email@example.com. We believe that education thrives best within a partnership of student, parent and school. Parental contact is actively sought and always welcome.
If, as a parent of a student attending this school, you require a paper copy of the information on this website, we shall provide this free of charge.
